PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This lecture, recorded during a 2022 APEA Review Course & Clinical Update, educates NPs about the most important characteristics of antibiotics, which pathogens commonly require antibiotic treatment, and decision making about managing patient conditions with antibiotics. The content reflects evidence-based guidelines and focuses on the most important steps in patient diagnosis and management.
FORMAT

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss the difference between gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.
- State the common pathogens requiring pharmacologic treatment with antibiotic therapy.
- Identify the antibiotics that are appropriate for the management of patients with bacterial infections, as well as the mechanism of action for each selected medication.
