PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This learning activity provides an overview of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and explains how to reach an HCV diagnosis, how to treat the chronic illness that can result, and what potential complications to expect.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the reason for the one-time screen of HCV antibody in Baby Boomers in the United States
  2. Name two educational points that are essential to review at the time of initial HCV diagnosis
  3. State three complications of untreated HCV infection
  4. Define decompensated cirrhosis vs compensated cirrhosis
  5. Name three new HCV medications with a proven cure rate >90%
