PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This lecture, recorded at a live continuing education webinar, helps primary care providers develop skills in the interpretation of chest and abdominal X-rays. In this detailed and interactive lecture, Dr. Denise Ramponi provides instruction in:
- Reading chest radiographs (heart borders, cardiothoracic ratio, poor vs. good inspiration, etc.)
- Recognizing consolidation (lung lobes, pleural effusion, estimate of size)
- Recognizing congestive heart failure (Kerley lines, interstitial markings, etc.)
- Recognizing pneumothorax
- Identifying foreign bodies in the chest
- Indications for abdominal radiographs
- Plain films of the abdomen (normal gas patterns, normal fluid levels, etc.)
- Interpreting an obstructive series (suprine, prone, lateral views, etc.)
- Recognition of functional ileus
- Recognizing small and large bowel obstruction
- Case studies

This course is taught by Denise Ramponi, DNP, CRNP, FAEN, an associate professor at Robert Morris University. Dr. Ramponi is a recognized expert in X-ray interpretation, minor office procedures, suturing, and acute care.
